What is happening?
Ashford Borough Council have announced plans to demolish Monypenny, and displace its elderly residents for a minimum of 2 years across the borough whilst a replacement is built.
Monypenny currently houses around 35 elderly, and in some cases disabled residents in 25 assisted living flats, and 8 bungalows.
ABC's proposal is to replace these with 23 flats for the elderly, as well as 12 flats and 6 houses for general purposes., by building on the existing Monypenny site, and the adjacent vicarage.
From those numbers, it is clear that those displaced residents will have no guarantee of being able to return to like for like accommodation, even after the upheaval and distress caused by a tem
Residents are not opposed to a Redevelopment of Monypenny and are supportive of General Needs Housing.
This campaign is to Allow ALL Residents if they wish to remain in situ at Monypenny until the completion of any Development.
The original proposals presented in 2023,for the Redevolopment of Monypenny did allow this option and there is no reason why the resubmitted proposals of 7 May 2025 cannot do this!
